Brad Furman directed this film from a screenplay by Ellen Brown Furman based on the autobiographical book THE INFILTRATOR by Robert Mazur detailing his efforts as a U.S. Customs special agent to bring down Pablo Escobar’s drug empire, specifically his money laundering operations. This film shows the toll taken on him and his family, particularly his wife and the fellow agents involved, since they are required to live double lives, sometime getting emotionally involved with the very people they are meant to bring down. This is an excellent film that I hope is not forgotten at Academy Awards time, with an outstanding cast of actors lead by Bryan Cranston in a role he fully deserves to be nominated for, along with John Leguizamo, Diane Kruger, Benjamin Bratt, Amy Ryan, Said Taghmaoui, Juliet Aubrey, Olympia Dukakis, Elena Anaya and Jason Isaacs among a very large cast. Harsh and very real in its telling, I give these agents credit in placing their physical and emotional lives on the line to preserve justice and safety for all Americans.
