Burr Steers film and screenplay is based on a parody novel by Seth Grahame-Smith based on Jane Austen’s beloved PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (Jane Austen has received co-writing credit though I think she’d hardly approve) with its twist being that it imagines England of 1813 having been overtaken with the walking dead thus complicating an already complicated but brilliant novel. Why can’t people leave well enough alone since this is one of the great classic novels of the ages by mucking it up with this ridiculous storyline which might work well for the TV series THE WALKING DEAD but frankly seems out of place here. Filmed with the all the mastery of a MASTERPIECE THEATRE episode it quickly degenerates into a ridiculous exercise in stupidity. The films stars some wonderful actors who must have needed the money in order to accept such a low and debauched script, not realizing that this film would eventually appear on their resumes. With any luck for their sake, it will be quickly forgotten. This film stars Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Lena Headley and Charles Dance.
