CREED (2015)
Ryan Coogler’s film is a continuation of the Rocky Balboa story but from the perspective of Apollo Creed’s son Adonis. The screenplay by Mr. Coogler and Aaron Covington and based on characters written by Sylvester Stallone is quite effective in it’s execution. By and large I was entertained and moved by what I saw on screen, frankly being totally swept up by the finale, which of course takes place in a boxing ring. The cast was excellent with Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad and an excellent Sylvester Stallone playing his most famous character in a role that may net him an Oscar Nomination as Best Supporting Actor. A film about hope and lost dreams and what it means to go on when life has dealt you a lousy hand. Mostly it’s about the quest for bettering one’s self in the hope of finding some sort of happiness and fulfillment in life. I enjoyed this film immensely and though not a fan of boxing, was completely swept up in the events happening on screen.
