THE IMITATION GAME (2014)
This film detailed the extraordinary true story of Alan Turing, a brilliant mathematician, cryptanalyst, and a pioneer in computer innovation who through his brilliant efforts helped to shorten World War II and in turn save millions of lives. He did this by cracking the Third Reich’s Enigma code through a computer he designed and built. This film is brilliantly acted by all concerned but especially by Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley, both of whom should have won the Academy Award. This film did what Brokeback Mountain was unable to do, by providing a beautiful portrayal of a man haunted by desires that he was unable to express in a time when homosexuality was a criminal offense. This is above all the story of perhaps World War II’s greatest unsung war hero. This film boasts an Academy Award winning script by Graham Moore with superb direction by Morten Tyldum.
